According to one study, more than 50% of American adults experience some form of stress during most of the day. Are you nodding your head in agreement?
If you’re like most of us, you could use a little R&R. You need more than simply a deep breath or a walk outside with your headphones on. You need a trip out west that can restore your peace and transform you from the inside out.
In other words, you need to experience Sedona body, mind & soul.
This magical city is replete with experiences to try and places to visit that can help you attain that much-needed clarity and renewal you’ve been searching to find. Today, we’re sharing top spots to add to your itinerary as you plan the getaway of a lifetime.
Meditate at Sunrise
Yes, your trip to Sedona should include plenty of deep, healing sleep, preferably in a luxurious hotel or gorgeous cabin overlooking the canyons and creeks.
Yet, try to reserve at least one morning to wake early, while it’s still dark out. Then, head to one of our city’s iconic sunrise spots, such as Airport Mesa, Bell Rock or Cathedral Rock, and find a place to get comfortable.
Close your eyes, breathe deeply and meditate as you watch one of the most unforgettable sunrises in the world. You can use this time to listen to a meditation app, pray, or simply sit in the awe-inspiring silence. If inspiration strikes, you can even ease into a few yoga poses to stretch and gently warm up your muscles.
Visit Amitabha Stupa & Peace Park
Spiritual enthusiasts from around the world make the trip to Sedona to visit the acclaimed Amitabha Stupa & Peace Park. This outdoor Buddhist venue offers plenty of spots for reflection, prayer, and meditation.
Within the park, you will find two towering Buddhist stupas. These are commemorative monuments that are often massive in size and scale. In this park, one stupa is shaped like a Native American medicine wheel and another is a wooden representation of the great philosopher Shakyamuni Buddha.
Open every day and free to visit, this is one quiet place you’ll want to return to a few times during your stay.
Visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross
There are some structures that simply exude peace and centeredness.
The Chapel of the Holy Cross is one of them. In the mid-1950s, this Roman Catholic chapel was built right into one of the colorful buttes of the Coconino National Forest, about halfway between the Village of Oak Creek and Uptown Sedona.
To get inside, you’ll walk up a long ramp that takes you up to the chapel. As you walk around the structure, you can look up to discover that you’re at the base of a 90-foot cross, massive in size and tremendous in spirit. Take your time exploring the inside and outside of the chapel, marveling at the architecture, the scenery around you, and the peace you feel in its presence.
This is a beautiful place to meditate as the sun rises. It is quiet and peaceful. You can enter the chapel and light a candle for a loved one. It is a very lovely and spiritual place, even for the non-religious.
